Raccolta di 16 tavole incise a bulino di scuola fiamminga (numerate da 1 a 16), legate a filza, su fogli ad ampi margini cm 44 x 32 (battuta cm 25,5 x 21,5 circa). Gora presente su tutte le tavole. Le tavole raffigurano scene bibliche sul tema della Pazienza del Re Davide e dei Profeti d’Israele accompagnate da due distici testuali che descrivono la raffigurazione e da una citazione biblica. Sono disegnate da Maerten de Vos (1532-1603), incise e pubblicate da Jan I Sadeler, zio di Aegidius Sadeler. La serie non è datata. “Dorothy Limouze considers that it was published in Munich during the early period when both Sadelers were active at the Wittelsbach court around 1588. Copies of the series were produced as early as 1597 in Frankfurt, with text by Benedictus Arias Montanus. The prints in the Patientia series each include two couplets referring to the story depicted, accompanied by Bible quotations… The series ‘Patientiae Davidis Regis et prophetae’ is characteristic of the Counter Reformation of the late sixteenth century fot the themes of patient suffering (patientia)” (Thea Vignau-Wilberg, “Music for a while”, 1999, p. 137). Nel Catalogo della libreria antiquaria Ludwig Rosenthal (Monaco, 1871) è citata questa raccolta di tavole, datata 1586, definita di una rarità straordinaria: “Patientiae Davidis regis et prophetae in Israel Joa. Sadeler auctor et excu. (1586), 16 fg. precieuses. D’une rareté extraordinaire! Ex d’une conservation parfaite!”.
